Newborn Yawn - prelude to terror
Unlike a more mature organism, a newborn yawn is invariably a wake up sign
to soon be followed by MAJOR wakeful activity (e.g. bawling!). So before
you say, "Oh how cute, he's so sleepy - look at him yawn!",
you have been warned.
14/10 Hour Awake/Sleep Rule
After about 2 years of age most young children should be able to sleep through
the night. This means no more breaks during the day without paying
a babysitter or pulling favors from your relatives. However, it seems young
children sleep longer each day than adults, typically 10 hours vs adults 6-8 hours.
that's 2-4 hours of adult time if planned for accordingly. This formula
also works backwards! If your child decides to take a three hour nap in the
afternoon, brace yourself for a bedtime 3 hours later than usual for your child
that night! Same goes for letting your kid sleep in, you'll pay for it with
a later bed time.
With good planning adults
can arrange to have some time in the morning or the evening to themselves
without paying someone.
